The Lord of the Rings: Gollum video game trailer heads to Mordor

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Daedalic Entertainment announced last year that they would be bringing us The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, an action-adventure game that would focus on the creature's time before he acquired the One Ring but before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings novels. The first teaser trailer for the upcoming game has been released, which you can check out above.

While the teaser trailer doesn't show us much beyond a quick glimpse at Gollum and the lands of Mordor, the creative team at Daedalic Entertainment did drop plenty of details while speaking with IGN. Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be a mixture of stealth-action and interactive narrative gameplay, and the title character will be going through the game in two distinct states – "either stealthily making your way past the various hulking threats living in Mordor, and making narrative choices as the warring personalities of Sméagol and Gollum fight for control." Lead game designer Martin Wilkes said, "The game mixes stealth with vertical climbing parkour. If you want a reference you might think of it as similar to Prince of Persia. It is mostly a non-combat game, but Gollum will be able to stealthily take out enemies. However, this will not be easy and always come with big risks. We want players to carefully weigh these encounters. After all, Gollum’s strengths lie in cunning not combat." Wilkes added that although Gollum doesn't use weapons, he can distract enemies, use the environment to his advantage, and will meet "special allies" along the way.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is expected to roll out in 2021.
