Vertical Entertainment has unveiled a trailer for the Robin Williams documentary ROBIN'S WISH, which looks to take audiences on an emotional journey through the comedian's final days and his battle with a neurodegenerative disorder. As a part of the preview, we see that the doc features interviews with the actor's widow, Susan Schneider Williams, as well as his friends and partners in film Shawn Levy, John R. Montgomery, and David E. Kelley, who all share their love for Robin and reflect on his brilliance both on and off-screen.
Directed by Tylor Norwood, ROBIN'S WISH takes an in-depth look at Williams' fight against Lewy Body Dementia, which happens when abnormal structures, called Lewy bodies, build up in areas of the brain. The disease may cause a wide range of symptoms, including changes in alertness and attention, hallucinations, problems with movement and posture, muscle stiffness, and confusion. "Armed with the name of a brain disease I’d never heard of, I set out on a mission to understand it, and that led me down my unchosen path of advocacy," Schneider Williams said in a statement. "With invaluable help from leading medical experts, I saw that what Robin and I had gone through, finally made sense — our experience matched up with the science. And what I discovered along the way was bigger than me, and bigger than Robin. The full story was revealed during the making of this film and it holds the truth that Robin and I had been searching for."
When people ask me which celebrity death has affected me the most, my answer is always, without question, Robin Williams. I first fell in love with Robin when I was just a child, thanks to Robert Altman's POPEYE. From that point forward I'd followed his work as best that I could, by watching films like GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM, DEAD POET'S SOCIETY, CADILAC MAN, and AWAKENINGS. Years later, Mr. Williams would go on to star in some of my favorite films of all time including, THE FISHER KING, HOOK, THE BIRDCAGE, and my personal favorite, DEATH TO SMOOCHY. To say that I am looking forward to this documentary would be an understatement, and I'm positive that plenty of other fans are as well. My advice is to keep a box of tissues at the ready because ROBIN'S WISH looks to be a real tear-jerker.
Vertical Entertainment will release Robin's Wish on demand and digital on Sept. 1.
