A funny thing happened this morning when I went into my bedroom to check on our new kitten Charlie. I heard the strange sound of a lock clicking and a door opening coming from my computer. Imagine my surprise and shock when I returned to my laptop to see a freshly deposited trailer for Netflix's Locke & Key in my inbox. Despite my chagrin, I was pleased with the outcome and it appears as if the streamer has unlocked the doors of everyone with Internet access and gifted us with the splendid trailer above. Bask in its glory Joe Hill fans!
For those of you not familiar with the property, Locke & Key is based on a series of graphic novels created by author Joe Hill and illustrator Gabriel Rodriguez. The story follows "three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Massachusetts only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them." This looks like the LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE mashed up with Harry Potter, with a dash of Stranger Things. I'm in. Also I want that rainbow lightsaber.
Joe Hill is no stranger to the fantastical and macabre. Aside from the Locke & Key comic series, the author has written some remarkable novels including Horns and The Fireman. His third novel NOS4A2 was also recently adapted into a series on AMC. The man certainly is adept at horror which makes sense considering it's in his blood. Hill's full name is Joseph Hillstrom King, the son of world famous horror writer Stephen King.
The first ten episodes of Locke & Key will be available for streaming on February 7.
