Actor/Director Ben Affleck is back in the game with the first trailer for his new film, ARGO, a 70’s set film based on actual events that took place during the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis. The pic co-stars Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Michael Parks, Rory Cochrane, Tate Donovan, and Clea Duvall.

Here’s a breakdown of the story:
Affleck plays Tony Mendez, a CIA “exfiltration” expert who is under pressure to devise a way to help six American’s in hiding to escape the country. His plan was to create an entirely fake Hollywood production company, working with well-known industry professionals to concoct the plan, even hiring Oscar winning make-up artist John Chambers (Planet of the Apes) to assist. Utilizing an actual science fiction project called “Lord of Light,” which eventually fell through due to funding, Mendez “greenlit” the project as a CIA front to rescue the hostages, who would be posing as members of the crew scouting locations in Iran.
After THE TOWN I definitely perked up to Affleck as a director. He showed true skill and a deft hand at story and character, so I’m interested to see if he continues the trend. It’s actually kind of cool that he turned to making his own movies after getting shafted into some pretty crappy roles throughout the years. So, the guy just decided to make his own. I have to respect that, especially since he’s done so well (thus far).
ARGO hits theaters on October 12, 2012.
