In just over a month, on February 17th, Magnet Releasing will be releasing XX, a horror anthology written and directed entirely by women, into theatres and on Demand, iTunes, and Amazon Video. XX has been shrouded in secrecy since we first heard about it three years ago, but with its release rapidly approaching a trailer has been released that finally gives us a look at the film and reveals some details.
Among those details are the titles of all four of the anthology's segments. We knew that former Rue Morgue magazine editor Jovanka Vuckovic wrote and directed a segment called The Box, based on a short story by Jack Ketchum. Now we know that SOUTHBOUND director Roxanne Benjamin and musician Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent, wrote a segment titled Birthday Party, which Clark directed. Benjamin also wrote and directed a segment called Don't Fall. JENNIFER'S BODY / THE INVITATION director Karyn Kusama has written and directed the segment Her Only Living Son.
Award-winning animator Sofia Carrillo (LA CASA TRISTE) wraps together the four suspenseful stories of terror.
That's interesting information, but even if those details weren't divulged the trailer makes XX look really intriguing, disturbing, and intense. I'm looking forward to watching the film next month.
The anthology's cast includes Melanie Lynskey, Natalie Brown, Angela Trimbur, Mike Doyle, Christina Kirk, Kyle Allen, Peyton Kennedy, Peter DaCunha, Ron Lea, Jonathan Watton, Lisa Renee Pitts, and Morgan Peter Brown.
