Artsploitation Films has given a DVD and VOD release to the Latvian film FIRSTBORN, which is described as a "subtle and quietly devastating" psychological thriller. If it sounds appealing to you, a copy can be purchased at THIS LINK.
Written and directed by Aik Karapetian, the film centers on
a man whose masculinity is put in question by his wife after his feeble reaction to a mugging. He then feels compelled to exact revenge on his attacker.
Another synopsis describes how things go terribly wrong from that point on, saying that the film is about
a middle-aged intellectual who, in an attempt to restore his reputation in his wife's eyes, accidentally commits a murder. As time passes he begins to see a link between the deceased, his wife's pregnancy, and the mysterious blackmailer who is forcing him to act against his will.
Maija Doveika, Kaspars Znotins, and Dainis Grube star.
