Confirming what we pretty much already assumed, Pixar confirmed yesterday that TOY STORY 3 would be their 2009 film following RATATOUILLE and WALL-E. John Lasseter, who directed the previous two films, will not return to direct the third installment and will hand the reins over to Lee Unkrich who co-directed TOY STORY 2. Lasseter said “the greatest thing” about reteaming with Disney was putting a stop to the TOY STORY 3 Disney was working on separate of Pixar and now being able to do it “with the story they wanted.” That means the old premise of Buzz being sent to Taiwan after a toy recall will be scrapped while Michael Arndt (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE) works on a new script. In the same conference Lasseter reported that Chris Williams will take over for Chris Sanders as director of AMERICAN DOG, Disney’s 2008 pic. He also denied rumors that Disney would return to solely 2-D animation while Pixar would handle all CGI animation. It certainly seems like Lasseter and his Pixar crew are coming in and cleaning up what was a mess of a Disney studio. What do you think would make a good premise for a third TOY STORY movie?
