Toxic Avenger reboot welcomes Kevin Bacon as the villain

Legendary Entertainment's reboot of The Toxic Avenger is assembling quite the interesting cast, and that momentum continues as THR has reported that Kevin Bacon has signed on to play the "slick" villain. I've got say, I love it!

The contemporary reimagining of the Troma classic is slated to be written and directed by Macon Blair (I Don't Feel At Home in this World Anymore) and will follow a struggling every-man who is pushed into a vat of toxic waste and is transformed into "a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends, and his community from the forces of corruption and greed." In addition to Kevin Bacon, the Toxic Avenger reboot also stars Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay, and Taylour Paige. Production is slated to get underway later this month in Bulgaria.

The original low-budget comedy splatter film quickly became a cult classic upon its release in 1984 and spawned several sequels (The Toxic Avenger Part II, The Toxic Avenger Part II: The Last Temptation of Toxie, and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV), an animated TV series, a musical, and a video-game. Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz are on board to serve as producers of the reboot. Kevin Bacon can currently be seen starring alongside Aldis Hodge in Showtime's City on a Hill, which was recently renewed for a third season.
