Top Gun: Maverick will undoubtedly go down as one of the post-pandemic era’s biggest success stories. Despite being bounced around the calendar for years due to Covid, the Top Gun sequel has gone on to become more successful than anyone could have ever anticipated, raking in $662 million domestically to date. It’s been breaking records left and right, but this weekend it passed a significant box office milestone – it outgrossed James Cameron’s Titanic. It now ranks as Paramount’s biggest grossing movie ever and the seventh highest grossing film (domestically) of all time. It’s only $16 million away from taking the number six spot, which would put it above Avengers: Infinity War. According to Variety, the top 5 highest grossing movies ever are:
“Black Panther” ($700 million), “Avatar” ($760 million), “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($804 million), “Avengers: Endgame” ($853 million) and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($936 million).
In an effort to move further up the list, Paramount just revealed that this coming weekend will be a TOP GUN: MAVERICK “FAN APPRECIATION WEEKEND .”According to the press release:
From Friday through Sunday, August 14th, before the movie presentation begins at all participating theatres, attending fans will experience exclusive content featuring a behind-the-scenes look at shooting onboard the USS Roosevelt with Tom Cruise and the cast to see what it takes to operate, film, and live on an active warship. Tickets for all shows of Top Gun: Maverick are available at topgunmovie.com; at participating exhibitors’ websites & mobile apps; as well as participating theatre box offices nationwide.
A new Top Gun: Maverick Collector’s print, commissioned and designed for fans by UK artist Doaly, will be given away to ticketholders at participating theatres starting Friday (while supplies last), and more information can be found at local theatre listings and exhibitor websites.
