Tomb Raider 2: Alicia Vikander hopes to kick some ass on the sequel

After bringing Lara Croft back to the big screen in 2018, Alicia Vikander is itching to return to Croft’s world for Tomb Raider 2. The sequel was originally slated to be helmed by Ben Wheatley (Rebecca), but when production was delayed due to COVID-19, Wheatley departed and Lovecraft Country‘s Misha Green came on board to write and direct Tomb Raider 2.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Alicia Vikander confirmed that Tomb Raider 2 is still in the works. “I hope we go and make another movie,” Vikander said. “Because of the pandemic, we had plans of shooting this film, and now it’s been one and a half years, but Misha Green is on board, and she’s writing a draft right now.” The actress added that she felt an instant connection with Green.

It’s pretty amazing — we’re, like, the same age! I was like, ‘Oh, I’m just now on a Zoom with an extremely talented woman that I think has done some incredible work.’ It would be so amazing if we get to go and do this very big-ass film together, going to kick some ass in front of the camera and behind the camera, you know?

Although Alicia Vikander doesn’t seem 100% confident that Tomb Raider 2 will happen, she said that “If we get to go and do another one, I want to have as much fun as it was the last round.” The first film put Lara Croft (Vikander) on a perilous journey to her father’s last-known destination as she hoped to solve the mystery of his disappearance. Tomb Raider also starred Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, and Kristin Scott Thomas.
