Tom Holland almost had to wear a wig in Spider-Man 3 due to Uncharted

Tom Holland shot two Sony projects back to back with the actor coming off of Uncharted pretty much going straight into filming Spider-Man 3. The pandemic actually made these shoots land a bit closer together than anticipated and Holland's hair in one film almost became the bone of contention in another.

In a new profile with "Esquire", Holland reveals that his hairstyle for the video game adaptation for Uncharted was deemed "too cool" by the powers that be behind Spider-Man 3 and it nearly resulted in the actor having to wear a wig in the third installment:

"My hair in Uncharted is much cooler. I have cool shaved sides and it’s slick at the back, and that’s not very Peter Parker. He’s a bit of a loser. So they put this wig on me that was just around the sides.”

Holland is not opposed to going full dork for the sake of playing Peter Parker but the "sides-only" wig situation looked like a disaster according to the actor and he put his foot down that he would not be wearing a wig:

"For the first time in my life, I put my foot down as the leading actor and was like, ‘I’m not fucking wearing that wig. You can just . . . I’m going to have shorter hair and you’re going to have to deal with it."

Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and as diva demands go, not wearing a wig isn't really high on the list so I think Holland can be forgiven. He knows a lot about the character at this point and what he should look like so if he felt the wig they were trying to use just wasn't working, it's probably best that they trusted his instincts.

Uncharted saw its fair share of delays from directors coming and going, to release date changes and various other scheduling conflicts. Venom and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer stepped up to helm the project while Mark Wahlberg and Antonio Banderas rounded out the cast. After a lot of false starts, filming wrapped mere weeks before Holland jumped into Spider-Man 3 with his haircut that was seemingly just too cool for Peter Parker. In Uncharted, Holland plays a young Nathan Drake in this movie adaptation of the popular game series, reportedly drawing inspiration from the fourth game. The film hits screens on February 11, 2022.
