Later today we will have the first full trailer for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING after a little bit of footage was seen yesterday. The footage showed off Spidey’s “web wings”, which was met with mostly positive responses. But it’s all we have for the moment, and in these next agonizing hours we have to wait there’s not much more to satiate our thirst…unless there’s a new interview out filled with quotes and a new image…which there is.
Check out star Tom Holland looking, I wanna say, regal, in his Spidey suit as he contemplates jumping on the train:
USA Today got to sit down with some of the filmmakers and Holland as they talked about what makes the movie special and different from other versions. Co-producer Eric Hauserman discussed where Paker/Spider-Man stands after the events of CIVIL WAR:
He literally just went to Europe with the coolest clique of them all. And now he’s back with the academic decathlon and the mathletes and going, “What am I doing here?”
Holland then gets into how Spidey being new to the hero game, and still a kid for that matter, factors into the story:
This is really a movie where Spider-Man’s not the finished article. He really does learn and he makes massive mistakes. It’s nice to see a kid do that and then try to rectify those mistakes.
Oh, and he gives a few first impressions of the villain, Vulture (Michael Keaton):
The first time we see the Vulture is terrifying. It’s like a horror movie: really scary, very intense and shocking.
Director Jon Watts speaks to how Vulture starting off as a normal guy is important to the story, acting as a perfect foil for Parker:
It’s fun to think that if Spider-Man is a regular kid who becomes a superhero, there’s got to be a bunch of regular guys who become supervillains, too.
Finally there’s producer Kevin Feige, who spoke to the upgraded suit Parker will be wearing, hinting there’s more to it than what we know saying it “can do a lot more than he [Parker] even realizes right now…you begin to see just how much Tony Stark loves bells and whistles."
Hopefully we will get to see more of Spidey and his gadget-filled suit in action in the first trailer, but I’m looking forward to seeing Vulture the most. He’s the only character we don’t have much of an idea about when it comes to look, as other stars like Marisa Tomei and Zendaya will be portraying normal, unenhanced folks. If the trailer can give me some mid-air combat scenes between the Wall Crawler and Vulture I can die happy. But please don't take that seriously and kill me. For the love of God, it's Christmas!
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING arrives July 7th, and stay tuned for the full trailer.
