We’ve been buzzing about Bane all week now that we got an expectedly full look at him in complete costume this weekend, fighting the Batman while shooting TDKR in Pittsburgh.
I’ve heard praise and criticism for what we saw, with some saying the appreciated the costume, but others wondering if this look is pre-serum, as he didn’t seem quite that inflated. I have to imagine that Nolan’s Bane isn’t going to be some roided out carnival freak, but rather a decently big guy (Tom Hardy) to keep some sense of realism in the world.
Hardy was recently interviewed by Total Film and had a lot to say about the role, from being cast to expectations and more.
“Hang on a minute. You’re asking me to come round the world with you in a Batman movie, playing a villain, and the only downside to it is I have to wear a mask? Hmmm, let me think. I’ll get back to you… No, I’m fucking there, man! Anything you need.”
A question was posed if Bane would in fact end up breaking Batman’s back like he did in the comic.
“Mmmmm… Good lead-in, but all I can say is that Chris has a plan up his sleeve that’s not at all disappointing. And that is a definite choice that’s watertight in every respect.
I think Bane’s fucking cool so I’m really excited to play him. It’s not the guy in Joel Schumacher’s film, but it shouldn’t disappoint fanboys.”
Haha, silly Tom, you will ALWAYS disappoint some of the fanboys, no matter what. But yeah, fortunately you have the bar set crazy low because of BATMAN AND ROBIN.
Asked if he had any qualms about trying to follow up Ledger’s Joker, he brushed it off.
“No, none at all. Brilliant actor, brilliant work – that’s it. I’ve got a job to do. It’s the same with Mad Max and Mel Gibson. I’m not here to engage in a competition with their talent. It’s to play the character that I’ve been given.”
Seriously, make that Mad Max movie already, I’m really looking forward to it.
