Details on Universal's upcoming reboot of THE MUMMY starring Tom Cruise have been, if you'll forgive the pun, under wraps. However, as production continues (and Russell Crowe gets tangled in negotiations to play a "Jekyll-like" character) more details are being slowly unraveled, like the very first official synopsis, which has now been dropped!

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
Don't think I let that BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN line escape my notice. It might be a nod to the wrong Universal property, but at least it shows they're keeping their older material in mind.
The cast also includes Jake Johnson as member of the military, Courtney B. Vance as an Army colonel, Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari, and ANNABELLE's Annabelle Wallis, who is playing a scientist. PROMETHEUS co-writer Jon Spaihts provided the script.
Fear THE MUMMY on June 9, 2017. Alex Kurtzman is directing and producing the film, which is part of Universal's massive plan to creature a shared universe with their "Classic Monsters" characters, leading into THE INVISIBLE MAN with Johnny Depp in 2018/2019 and an as yet untitled third film in 2019.
