Top Gun: Maverick is now the biggest movie of Tom Cruise’s career both domestically and abroad so it’s only fair that he would get one hell of a payday based on the film’s success. As it stands right now, it looks like the actor may earn nearly $100 million from the Top Gun sequel.
Based on a new report from Puck News, it was revealed that due to Cruise’s contract, the actor is about to be paid handsomely due to its box office earnings. Puck News reports that Cruise was paid $12.5 million as a base salary for the film but he also stands to earn 10% of the movie’s first-dollar gross “with escalators that increase his percentage at certain milestones.” The actor’s backend doesn’t kick in until Paramount Pictures has earned $125 million in revenue but that will be far from an issue for a movie that has grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide. Between the film’s theatrical performance and potential earnings from rentals and streaming, Puck News estimates that Tom Cruise will at least make an estimated $80-90 million from the film and $100 million isn’t off the table either.
Paramount Pictures is having a stellar year due to a string of hits and Top Gun: Maverick has really been the icing on the cake. The film has seen very minimal drops weekend-to-weekend as word of mouth continues to be stellar. Tom Cruise was adamant about the movie being released in movie theaters when the sequel was hit by numerous COVID-19 delays which meant streaming was not an option for the actor. No one could’ve really known how much of a success the sequel would become but everyone involved s probably happy they trusted Cruise’s instincts. Now the actor can just take in all the benefits, and relish in the film’s enormous success.
