Tom Cruise has spent a year training for a Mission: Impossible 6 sequence

Update: Christopher McQuarrie took to Twitter to offer a quick update, saying that it's not a single stunt Cruise has spent a year training for, but a "sequence."

Although many of us love the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies for the pure entertainment value they offer, a big part of what keeps us coming back is to see what type of death-defying stunt(s) Tom Cruise has cooked up for us this time. The previous installments of the franchise have had Cruise leaping from the cliffs of Utah’s Dead Horse Point, scaling the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and hanging on for dear life on the side of a A400 plane as it takes off. Tom Cruise obviously doesn't need to prove the size of his adamantium balls any longer, but apparently one of his stunts in the upcoming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 required the actor to train for a full year in order to be able to pull it off.

Collider was recently able to speak with Skydance Media CEO David Ellison, who told them that filming on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 will kick off on April 10, 2017 in Paris, London and New Zealand. As for the stunts, Ellison says that they will "top anything that's come before."

We’re thrilled. Chris is back, obviously, writing and directing after Rogue Nation. We could not be more excited about the character Henry Cavill’s going to play. And I will say after the Burj [Khalifa] we thought it was going to be impossible to top that stunt, and then Tom did the A380 for the plane. What Tom is doing in this movie I believe will top anything that’s come before. It is absolutely unbelievable—he’s been training for a year. It is going to be, I believe, the most impressive and unbelievable thing that Tom Cruise has done in a movie, and he has been working on it since right after Rogue Nation came out. It’s gonna be mind-blowing.

I can't imagine what sort of craziness Tom Cruise has planned which has kept him busy for a year, but I'm sure the end result will be more than impressive. As a big MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE fan, I'm pumped to see what Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie have in store for the sequel, especially as McQuarrie has teased that the film will give us a "very different" Ethan Hunt and explore his character in a deeper way than any of the previous movies did. The cast is shaping up quite nicely as well, with Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner all expected to return, where they'll be joined by Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) and Henry Cavill (MAN OF STEEL), the latter of the two is said to be playing "some sort of right hand to the head of the Cruise’s unit." Can't wait.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 is set for a July 27, 2018 release.
