Tom Cruise, forever the cheerleader for the moviegoing experience, is shaking his pom poms for upcoming summer blockbusters, including Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Barbie, and Oppenheimer. Even though Cruise has his own epic hitting screens in a few weeks (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One), the fearless, stunt-happy actor is unafraid of showing his love for the competition.
“This summer is full of amazing movies to see in theaters,” Cruise wrote on Instagram (below) in service to the tireless efforts of Hollywood to help audiences beat the heat with explosive entertainment on the silver screen. “These are just a few that we can’t wait to see on the big screen.”
“Congratulations, Harrison Ford, on 40 years of Indiana Jones and creating one of the most iconic characters in cinema history,” he continued in the post depicting him and Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie standing before a Dial of Destiny poster. “You have given us countless hours of joy.”
“I love a double feature, and it doesn’t get more explosive (or more pink) than one with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.”
Cruise knows a few things about making ticket retailer dreams come true during summertime. Last year, Cruise starred in Top Gun: Maverick, a film that helped the box office recover after the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of Hollywood’s top creators, including Steven Spielberg, credit Maverick with rescuing the industry from tremendous loss, saying the action-packed sequel reinvigorated the public’s desire to witness movies in cinemas.
While Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is tracking for a $140M+ opening, analysts have yet to crunch numbers for Barbie and Oppenheimer. Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan’s films have been the talk of the town for months, with demographics of all kinds eager to see pink or devastation from the respective releases. Barbie is killing in social media spaces with poster generators, real-life Barbie mansions, and more hyping the blonde bombshell’s big screen debut. While Oppenheimer‘s PR blitz is less flashy, Nolan’s fanbase is loyal and enthusiastic about everything the director touches. Both Barbie and Oppenheimer are sure to get their flowers, though it remains uncertain who will take the top spot at the box office.
Which film do you plan to see first in theaters? Barbie or Oppenheimer? I’m Team Barbie, but I am also looking forward to Nolan’s latest epic. Feel free to let us know which movie you’ll see first in the comments section.
