Tom Cruise and his Edge of Tomorrow director may reteam for 80’s drug tale

EDGE OF TOMORROW wasn't just one of the cinematic highlights of 2014, I would go as far to say it's one of Tom Cruise’s best movies, and that guy has done some great movies. So if you want to repeat success, it's sometimes best to use the same winning formula you used before. Cruise and his EDGE OF TOMORROW director Doug Liman are looking to do just that by teaming up on a very cool sounding project, the drug thriller MENA. The film is set in the 1980's and has Cruise playing a drug trafficking pilot; you all have "Danger Zone" playing in your heads right now too, admit it.

Deadline said of the movie (SPOILERS within):

The spec is a fact-based tale about Barry Seal, a pilot who, in the 1980s, was a gun runner, and drug trafficker who transported contraband for the CIA and the Medellin cartel. He was eventually shot to death by the latter in Baton Rouge. The title refers to Mena, Arkansas, where a lot of the illegal activity took place, under the noses of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and then-Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton.

Well so much for a surprise ending. It does sound like a great idea though, and Cruise playing an anti-hero (I suspect) could be a lot of fun. If all goes according to plan the film could shoot this year.

Are you excited to see these two gentlemen working together again?
