It finally looks like THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. has its main pieces locked down.
Tom Cruise and Armie Hammer will pair up for the adaptation for director Guy Ritchie. Around mid-March I wrote about Cruise circling the one of the roles in the flick, but never got a confirmation. Deadline not only makes the confirmation but adds that Hammer will take the other role.
I’m down for this. I quite enjoy the work of all parties involved, even Hammer who haven’t seen too terribly much of. He was terrific in THE SOCIAL NETWORK, and I will forward to checking him out in THE LONE RANGER. The original television series from which the material is based ran from 1964-68 followed Robert Vaughan and David McCallum as “Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, two agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement. With gadgets and their wits and charm, they fought the evil forces of Thrush.”
At one point, Steven Soderbergh was on to direct with George Clooney in one of the roles, but both wound up parting from the project.
Anyone else looking forward to this now?
