Todd McFarlane shows off Batman & Robin figures

Todd McFarlane has unveiled the upcoming figures based around the much-maligned Batman & Robin, which brought the franchise back to camp territory in a big way. And while the movie itself may not have the devoted fanbase of, say, any of the others, the figures themselves do kick some ice!

In a recent Instagram video, Todd McFarlane showed off the Batman & Robin figures of Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Poison Ivy. Already in boxes and marked as “production pieces”, the figures offer pretty darn good likenesses of the actors: “big, bad George Clooney” (McFarlane’s words), Chris O’Donnell, Alicia Silverstone, and Uma Thurman. McFarlane also praised the details in the outfits themselves, particularly ogling Poison Ivy’s dry brush and makeup details. He did, however, stop short of pointing out the Bat-nipples, but don’t worry, they are indeed present.

But no Batman & Robin set would be complete without Mr. Freeze – so, where is he? Fear not, Bat-fans, as these Batman & Robin figures are part of McFarlane Toy’s Build-a Figure line, so you can have Mr. Freeze by collecting the core four. As seen in the video, Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Poison Ivy all come with separate parts that, when combined, complete the Mr. Freeze figure. This was also done with the line of figures for Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, where if you bought  Batman, Two-Face, The Joker, and Scarecrow, you could build Bane.

Unfortunately, no release date has been announced for McFarlane Toy’s Batman & Robin figures but you can likely expect to see them next year.

Batman & Robin has a bit of a cult following now – whether ironic or not – but one man who still has a hard time with it is lead George Clooney, who says it causes him physical pain to watch the movie. It did, however, give him a useful perspective on his career, saying, “Quite honestly when I got Batman & Robin I was just an actor getting an acting job and I was excited to play Batman – what I realized after that was that I was going to be held responsible for the movie itself not just my performance or what I was doing. So I knew I needed to focus on better scripts, the script was the most important thing.”

What do you think of McFarlane Toy’s Batman & Robin line of action figures? Will you collect all four to make Mr. Freeze or will these stay on the shelf?
