One of the films I'm looking forward to checking out the most in the near-future is first-time director Todd McFarlane's hard-R SPAWN reboot coming our way via Blumhouse.
I don't know how well McFarlane can direct a movie, but given how well he has run his business and comics and whatnot over the years at least the man is, you know, responsible with money. So that's good.
Plus, you can't beat a SPAWN film written and directed by the anti-hero's creator. Who else in the world knows what Spawn needs to bring about the best possible film – for the budget Blumhouse has in mind?
Case in point, McFarlane just revealed that his new SPAWN film will be set in New York City… even if the film doesn't shoot there.
Todd McFarlane on SPAWN:
There are different places that give incentives for you to come and shoot the movies there. So, we're going to be looking at all those given that, you know we're not going to have a big budget, so we're going to want to stretch it as far as we can, right. And so, but, at the same time given that this world takes place in New York, we're going to have to be in a place that can be somewhat convincing at times, especially for some exterior shots… though my guess, I'll probably have to do a couple pick up shots actually here in New York City, but you know, so, you're looking at places like Detroit, and Cleveland and, I'm Canadian, Toronto.
I know a ton of films fake NYC with other locations, but it's good to know that not only is McFarlane okay with that, but he seems to have planned on this budgetary restriction from the get-go. Again, the man seems to know his stuff. Management-wise. Now let's see how he handles the camera, etc.
