The last word we brought you guys regarding the upcoming R-rated supernatural take on SPAWN from Blumhouse and first-time director Todd McFarlane was to let you guys know the film will begin shooting this February.
Today we have an update on the project via Yahoo! where McFarlane sat down for an in-depth interview that's a must-read. And one of the bits McFarlane dropped that caught my interest the most is the tone of his new SPAWN film.
When asked if the new film will, in fact, be horror, McFarlane specified that he is hoping the film will be in line with a creepy, odd, bizarre, weird flicks like JACOB'S LADDER.
Todd McFarlane on SPAWN:
I hesitate to use the word horror with Spawn because everyone has a different definition of that word. To me, horror means Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers. So I think of Spawn as supernatural; it doesn’t mean gore or violence, it just means creepy, odd, bizarre, weird stuff. When I was younger, Jacob’s Ladder was awesome. I still remember that movie, because it unsettled me enough that I couldn’t get it out of my brain. I hope I can get a little bit of that into Spawn.
