We just hit you with the news that ALIEN star Sigourney Weaver had signed on to star alongside Liam Neeson in Juan Antonio Bayona's upcoming A MONSTER CALLS and now we've learned that Doctor Doom himself is in talks to join the adaptation of Patrick Ness’ fantasy novel.
Variety is reporting that DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and FANTASTIC FOUR actor Toby Kebbell is in negotiations to join Neeson, Weaver, and Felicity Jones in A MONSTER CALLS, which Bayona is directing for Focus Features, River Road Entertainment, Participant Media and Lionsgate International.
As reported earlier, Neeson will be playing the all important titular monster while Weaver will take on the role of the grandmother to the boy who attempts…
…to deal with bullying at the hands of his classmates, and his mother's terminal illness, by escaping into a fantastical world through the guidance of a tree monster.
No word on which role Kebbell has been approached to play.
A MONSTER CALLS has been slated for an October 14, 2016 theatrical release. Executive producers are River Road’s Bill Pohlad and Mitch Horwits, Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King, and Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairman Patrick Wachsberger.
