There's been a shakeup in a galaxy far, far away as Black Mirror's Toby Haynes will now replace Tony Gilroy as a director on Disney's upcoming Rogue One spin-off series. As per the new arrangement, Haynes will shoot the first three episodes, after Gilroy was forced to drop out due to COVID-19 related travel reasons. You see, Gilroy lives in New York, and it would take quite a bit of doing for him to make the trip over to the U.K. at this time, which is where production is poised to begin. As it happens, Haynes was already a top contender for the Rogue One gig, and him already being stationed in the U.K. makes hiring him all the easier for those involved.
Disney's forthcoming Star Wars spin-off series is set before the events of Rogue One and is said to have "spy thriller" overtones with Diego Luna's Alliance Intelligence officer, Cassian Andor, leading the cloak and dagger-like presentation. Alan Tudyk is also set to reprise his role as K-2SO, Andor's droid sidekick. Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgard, and Kyle Soller are also expected to be a part of the Rogue One spin-off cast.
Other Star Wars series expected to land on Disney+ include the second season of Jon Favreau's THE MANDALORIAN as well as a series focusing on a young Obi-Wan Kenobi with Ewan McGregor reprising the iconic role.
Despite the latest Star Wars trilogy not landing for some, it remains clear that the franchise is still alive and well at Disney+ as well as other avenues. Are you excited to follow Cassian Andor onto a new adventure or have stories tied to the original trilogy worn out their welcome?
