That was quick. Tobe Hooper's 1974 classic THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE was only just added to the Netflix streaming service back in October, but apparently that was only a four month deal. It has been revealed that the movie will be leaving Netflix on February 21st.
Thankfully, as of this writing it looks like THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE will still be available to watch on Shudder, Amazon Prime Video, and the free service Tubi for the foreseeable future. Shudder also has a special edition of their show The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs where the legendary Briggs hosts the movie.
You all know the story of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, don't you? I'll put the synopsis here anyway:
When Sally (Marilyn Burns) hears that her grandfather's grave may have been vandalized, she and her paraplegic brother, Franklin (Paul A. Partain), set out with their friends to investigate. After a detour to their family's old farmhouse, they discover a group of crazed, murderous outcasts living next door. As the group is attacked one by one by the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen), who wears a mask of human skin, the survivors must do everything they can to escape.
Burns, Partain, and Hansen were joined in the cast by Edwin Neal, Jim Siedow, Allen Danziger, William Vail, Teri McMinn, and John Dugan. Hooper directed from a screenplay he wrote with Kim Henkel.
Originally released on October 11, 1974, the movie recently celebrated its 45th anniversary. It still holds up to this day, an incredible film that is one of my all-time favorites.
If you want to watch it on Netflix, you have less than four weeks to do so. If you want to stop worrying about which streaming services have THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, you could go ahead and buy the movie on DVD, Blu-ray, or both.
