Before I started working here at AITH, I was part of a contest where a short story of mine was being considered for adaptation in TNT's revival of TALES FROM THE CRYPT. Turns out my tale wasn't picked to fill in the revival's crypt, but now in a way, I'm glad (yeah, right) because it looks like the new series just isn't going to be happening anytime soon.
The revival if you remember which was supposed to be coming our way via M. Night Shyamalan but back in April we let you guys know the series had been delayed over rights issues. Now it seems, for the time being, the series is D.O.A.
Sad but true.
Recently, TNT and TBS president Kevin Reilly was speaking with Deadline and eventually, the subject turned towards tales and crypts.
TNT and TBS president Kevin Reilly on TALES FROM THE CRYPT:
That one got really caught up in a complete legal mess unfortunately with a very complicated underlying rights structure. We lost so much time, so I said, ‘Look, I’m not waiting around four years for this thing’. Maybe that will come back around but in the meantime, Ridley Scott had come up, who has so much creative enthusiasm.
Well, this just sucks, doesn't it?
I had heard the rights were a pain in the ass years ago, and that the upcoming series wouldn't feature the HBO Cryptkeeper we all know and love based on such issues. Didn't know the potential revival wasn't going to sport the HBO Cryptkeeper? Well, now you do.
Are you as upset as I am that TNT's TALES FROM THE CRYPT seems to be dead in the water? I know you are. All the same let us know how excited you were about the new series and what your favorite episode of the original series was on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!
Until we know when (and if) TNT plans to get back to work on resolving the rights issues surrounding TALES FROM THE CRYPT, you can always buy the full HBO series on DVD June 6th!
