With all the hoopla surrounding the production of the UNTITLED HAN SOLO MOVIE having settled, and the movie’s filming finishing up smoothly, we can now get back to asking the real question that has yet to be answered: What the hell is this movie’s actual title? For the longest time, people have just been calling this film the HAN SOLO movie – or some variation – simply because we don’t know the actual title. Turns out, we may not have needed to look too far from there for the actual title.
Thanks to a Twitter user a leaked piece of material for an upcoming toy line for the film has made its way online, and with it comes the possible reveal of the movie’s actual title, and a hint that Disney is looking to keep a certain consistency with their spinoffs.
If you had trouble getting a look, the logo reveals the title of the movie to be HAN SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY. This, of course, takes from the last STAR WARS spinoff, ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, which was the first in what will be a long line of prequel/spinoff films. If this is the actual title, then that means Disney will include the “A STAR WARS STORY” addition to its other non-EPISODE related films. This would mean we would get OBI-WAN: A STAR WARS STORY, BOBA FETT: A STAR WARS STORY and, naturally, EWOKS: A STAR WARS STORY, etc.
HAN SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY being the title of the movie would make a lot of sense given the branding appeal of the series. Though we like to think Han Solo (played here by Alden Ehrenreich) is one of the most recognizable characters in film history, there are sadly many people who wouldn't know the name if it appeared alone on a poster. Same goes with ROGUE ONE, so adding the subtitle increases brand familiarity. This also keeps a certain consistency with all the WARS films, categorizing them as either a “STORY” or an “EPISODE.” Not the most inspired title, but hey, for those of us who love the series, HAN SOLO is all we need to see on the marquee for us to slam our money down on the counter.
The HAN SOLO movie is set for May 2018.
