Alcon Media Group and Titan Publishing are teaming up to develop comic books based on the world established in the films BLADE RUNNER and BLADE RUNNER 2049. The first Blade Runner book we'll be getting from Titan Comics is Blade Runner 2019, which is set during the same year as the first BLADE RUNNER – which was released in 1982, back when this year was quite futuristic.
Mike Johnson and BLADE RUNNER 2049 co-writer Michael Green are writing the comic book, with Andres Guinaldo providing the artwork. Details on the plot are being kept under wraps, but it is said that the comic will
feature a (mostly) new set of characters and situations.
Titan shared a look at some of those new characters with Entertainment Weekly, and the sketches of them can be seen below. Among the group is Ash, "a female Blade Runner who is more than she seems."
Titan editor David Leach had this to say about the project:
I was 19 when I first saw Blade Runner and I left the cinema dazed and stunned. Frankly, it blew my tiny little art school mind, so the opportunity to work on this new comic set in that same world is an absolute thrill and honor!"
Alcon's Director of Publishing Jeff Conner added:
We are excited about exploring and expanding the Blade Runner universe. The 2019 setting provides a broad canvas for the creative team to present fresh stories and compelling characters."
An exact release date for Blade Runner 2019 has not yet been announced, but Titan expects to have copies of the first issue on store shelves sometime this summer.
