When you hear the date “December 18, 2015,” there’s undoubtedly one thing that comes to mind: STAR WARS. It’s the date the infamous sequel to the original trilogy will hit theaters and fans will cry out, one way or the other. The idea of the space opera having any competition is a joke but Universal Pictures is planning their own bit of counter programming with the upcoming Tina Fey/Amy Poehler comedy SISTERS. The story focuses on two sisters who decide to throw one last house party before their parents sell their family home and while it may seem like a silly move on Universal’s part to release on such a day, Poehler is clearly not dissuaded.
Amy Poehler had this to say:
We said we’d only do the movie if it opened against STAR WARS. We’re not scared. It’s what gets us up in the morning. We’re going to f*cking crush STAR WARS.”
Jokes aside, this could actually work out pretty well. Believe it or not, there are just some people out there who are not into STAR WARS, and a comedy featuring two of the most talented comedians working today sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Not to mention, the film will also feature the talents of Maya Rudolph, John Leguizamo and John Cena (what?) and is directed by Jason Moore (PITCH PERFECT). Personally, I love both Fey and Poehler (Parks and Rec totally turned me) and I’d be more than willing to catch this in theaters except . . . ya know, priorities.
SISTERS will battle the galactic menace that is STAR WARS on December 18, 2015.
