While most SyFy Original Movies are usually bottom-of-the-barrel entertainment, the cable channels original series line-up has been, for the most part, pretty damn good with offerings such as "Warehouse 13", "Haven" and "Battlestar Galactica" ranking among the best shows SyFy has aired. Yesterday we shared the news that the cable station was moving ahead with a series based on Terry Gilliam's 12 MONKEYS (fingers crossed for that one!) and today we have news on another program heading our way from SyFy that sounds somewhat intriguing.
Deadline is reporting that WANTED and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER director Timur Bekmambetov is venturing into television with the post-apocalyptic "Warriors of Oz", based on his own idea.
Warriors of Oz is a fantasy-action reimagining of the classic story in which a warrior from present day Earth is transported to a post-apocalyptic future Oz, where he must team up with three other warriors – Heartless, Brainless, and Coward – in order to defeat the evil Wizard who has enslaved the land.
Bekmambetov (who also helmed the excellent NIGHTWATCH and DAYWATCH) is set to executive produce and possibly direct. The search is on for a writer, and the project will be produced by Universal Cable Productions.
