Timothee Chalamet may have lost his first Oscar to Gary Oldman, but the young talent is putting the gloves back on for round two with his new drama BEAUTIFUL BOY. The first trailer for the drama is here and looks poised to be a devastating and heartwarming film that will surely rally audiences (and awards voters) around the stunning performances of both Chalamet and the always fantastic Steve Carell.
In the movie from Amazon, Chalamet stars as a young man named Nic Sheff who becomes addicted to methamphetamine, with Carell playing his father, David, who wants nothing more for his son to get better. The story is about the struggle of addiction and how the road to recovery is long and difficult, but possible as long as you never give up. Based on the memoirs from both Nic and David, the film marks the English-language debut from director Felix Van Groeningen (THE BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN).
The movie certainly looks powerful, and Chalamet and Carell look tremendous in their roles. It's raw, unflinching emotion from the two, which will be more than enough to help the movie rise above the normal Oscar affair. This movie marks one of three performances from Carell to watch this fall, as he's also in Robert Zemeckis' WELCOME TO MARWEN and Adam McKay's Dick Cheney biopic BACKSEAT as Donald Rumsfeld. This is the year of Carell; I can smell it.
BEAUTIFUL BOY arrives October 12.
