Although T.J. Miller previously teased an "even more raw" version of DEADPOOL, it doesn't sound like a director's cut is going to be released, based on the comments Tim Miller made during a recent Collider-moderated Q&A. After being asked about the possibility of a director's cut, Miller responded with “I don’t wanna be all Joss Whedon on you, but no there’s not [a director’s cut]… There are some deleted scenes that have some extra stuff, but I’m pretty happy with this cut. I like it.”
Most of those deleted scenes will probably still be included with the DVD and Blu-ray release of the comic book movie though. Miller also went on to say that there were a few things producer Simon Kinberg “strongly suggested” he take out, and talked a little about a more brutal cut of the workshop fight.
There’s some stuff on the DVD extras, I had a little more workshop fight in there that I liked—that’s the beat that we were talking about, [Simon’s] like, ‘Tim it’s violent enough, please’ and I’m like, ‘Oh no but man when he stomps on his face it’s awesome,’ and Simon’s like, ‘No we’ve got enough.’ (laughs)
I know some of you are probably bummed that a director's cut isn't going to happen, however I actually think it would be more fun if the home media release came with a PG-rated cut (similar to the "family friendly" PG version of Tom Green's FREDDY GOT FINGERED) with audio commentary by Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with the Mouth. What kind of special features would you like to see on the DEADPOOL Blu-ray and DVD?
