Although it seems that I may be a couple decades older than its primary target audience, I have to say that Tim Burton's latest film MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN looks quite promising to me, judging from the previous trailer and the new one that can be seen below.
Written by Jane Goldman and based on the novel by Ransom Riggs, the film has the following synopsis:
When Jake discovers clues to a mystery that spans alternate realities and times, he uncovers a secret refuge known as Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. As he learns about the residents and their unusual abilities, Jake realizes that safety is an illusion, and danger lurks in the form of powerful, hidden enemies. Jake must figure out who is real, who can be trusted, and who he really is.
Goldman co-wrote X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, and I do find PEREGRINE'S, as presented in the trailer, to be somewhat similar to an X-Men story. You have children with superhuman abilities gathering together at a safe haven, with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children standing in for Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. The children then put their abilities to use fighting villains. Sign me up for that, I love superhero stories.
Things are made all the more appealing by the horrific nature of the creatures and villains we see here – some kind of demonic looking monster, a horde of weapon-wielding skeletons, and a super creepy Samuel L. Jackson. Who doesn't want to watch Samuel L. Jackson be super creepy?
Check out the new trailer below and see if the film looks as good to you as it does to me. If so, you can look forward to seeing MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN when it's released on September 30th.
