For those of you who haven't had a chance to check out the trailer, BIG EYES is the latest film from director Tim Burton that surprisingly doesn't feature a plethora of CGI, Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter! Say what?!? This film instead focuses on the true story of painter Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz), whose enigmatic paintings of waifs with big eyes were actually created by his wife Margaret (Amy Adams). The story centers on Margaret's awakening as an artist, the phenomenal success of her paintings, and her tumultuous relationship with her husband, who was catapulted to international fame while taking credit for her work. Singer/songwriter Lana Del Ray also contributes a song to the film, of which you can watch a lyric video for below.
I'm not sure why the Weinsteins decided to release only a minute or so of the song, but to be perfectly honest, the tune wasn't doing much for me anyway. What I am interested in, however, is the actual film and the performances therein. Tim Burton seems to excel at presenting audiences with a special brand of magical realism, and I get a very BIG FISH vibe from this flick. It'll be great to see a Burton film that doesn't rely on the now run-of-the-mill Johnny Depp-isms. The last bio-pic the man worked on was ED WOOD, which proved to be one of Burton's best flms! I'd wager that BIG EYES will end up being a realy sleeper.
BIG EYES will be released on December 25.
