THE HOST director Bong Joon-ho's new creature feature OKJA appears to be a very interesting film, and a much stranger one than I had anticipated. At least, the marketing for it has certainly gotten weird.
OKJA's latest promo trailer features Tilda Swinton as Lucy Mirando, CEO of Mirando Corp, who's doing a bit of a commercial for her company – a commercial that contains a bizarre contemplation of what sort of nightmares pigs might have. I don't know if the full feature will be as odd as this promo is, but the amusing oddness definitely makes this ad for Mirando's "Super Pig Project" worth watching.
The creature in OKJA has been described as being a "very shy and introverted animal", and it forms a bond with a young girl, Seo Hyun An as Mija. Mija
must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named Okja.
In addition to Tilda Swinton and Seo Hyun An, the film also stars Lily Collins, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kelly Macdonald, Paul Dano, Giancarlo Esposito, Devon Bostick, Byun Hee-bong, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, Yoon Je Moon, Choi Woo-shik, and The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun.
OKJA will be available for viewing on Netflix as of June 28th. Exactly two months from now.
