Netflix has let a new Tiger King 2 trailer out of its cage. The sequel shares plenty of footage leftover from Season 1, continuing the saga of Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin, and an assortment of wild cat-keeping crooks. Season 1 of Tiger King arrived near the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly became a binge-able obsession for those asked to shelter in place. In today’s Tiger King 2 trailer, we find Joe Exotic participating in the sequel from behind bars and those attached to his story living fat off royalties earned from the original documentary series.
For those of you that have yet to tumble down the disturbing rabbit hole that is Netflix‘s Tiger King, the documentary details the events leading up to tiger breeder Joe Exotic’s conviction for murder-for-hire against Big Cat Rescue non-profit founder and quintessential crazy cat lady Carole Baskin.
For Tiger King 2, Netflix says “The colorful saga of America’s most notorious big cat owners continues” as “sudden fame and unwanted attention from the authorities turns up the heat and unearths some stunning revelations…. Old enemies and frenemies, including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson return for another season of murder, mayhem, and madness. Thought you knew the whole story? Just you wait.”
While fans of the original Tiger King series might be looking forward to the sequel, Carole Baskin is less than thrilled about Netflix getting back in the cage for another round. Saying the Netflix series has brought her nothing but trouble, Baskin has publically distanced herself from the franchise.
“I don’t know how they put out a Tiger King 2 when Joe Schreibvogel’s in jail and I’m refusing to be played again,” Baskin said in a September statement. “[Co-director] Rebecca Chaiklin said she wanted to ‘clear the air’ about what they did to me in Tiger King. I told her to lose my number. There is no explanation for such a betrayal and false portrayal.”
Yikes! I wonder if Baskin has seen the new Tiger King 2 trailer? If she has and is angered by it, I’m sure we’ll be hearing her end of the story sooner rather than later.
