As remakes go, Zack Snyder's take on George Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD was pretty damn good, so it was quite exciting when we found out that Snyder would be returning to the zombie genre with ARMY OF THE DEAD. Production on the Netflix film wrapped up last year, but it seems that shooting will get underway once again in order to swap out a member of the cast.

THR has reported that Tig Notaro (Star Trek: Discovery) will be stepping in to replace Chris D'Elia, who has found himself faced with some fairly serious allegations of sexually harassing underage girls. There will be a quick round of reshoots in order fit Notaro into the film, but as most of the actors have already moved on and we're now in the middle of a pandemic, THR says there there will be a variety of techniques used in the reshoots, ranging from "actually reshooting scenes opposite an acting partner to using green screen and CG technology to blend her in." ARMY OF THE DEAD will be "set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted." In addition to the newly cast Tig Notaro, the film also stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, and Samantha Win.

ARMY OF THE DEAD doesn't have a release date at the moment, but I would imagine that it will hit Netflix sometime next year.
