Who run the world? Well, if she has a say in it, it’s Beyonce. And to continue that run, she is bringing her record-breaking tour to the big screen. Even better for fans, tickets are on sale now, two months ahead of its release.
Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce “accentuates the journey of RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR, from its inception, to the opening in Stockholm, Sweden, to the finale in Kansas City, Missouri. It is about Beyoncé’s intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft. Received with extraordinary acclaim, Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR created a sanctuary for freedom, and shared joy, for more than 2.7 million fans.”
Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour ran from May to October of this year, pulling in an astounding $461 million, making it the highest-grossing tour for a female artist ever. Beyonce also has two other tours in the top 10: 2016’s The Formation Tour ($312 million) – which I had a chance to see and can attest to the crowd reactions – and 2013-2014’s The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour ($283 million). The Renaissance World Tour is actually the 10th highest-grossing overall, behind Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams Tour; the record is currently held by Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road, which made over $930 million over its lengthy run.
Of course, Beyonce isn’t the only pop superstar to be hitting the big screen this year. This month, T. Swift is bringing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour to theaters all over, with some estimates pegging the concert film to make around $100 million on opening weekend. (For what it’s worth, The Eras Tour only made a measly $300 million.) And while Beyonce’s movie likely won’t be causing studios to shift their release calendar around, it will still be a massive event for fans.
Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce comes to theaters on December 1st.
