Chadwick Boseman is playing Thurgood Marshall in the upcoming biopic MARSHALL. This marks the third historical figure Boseman has played, after Jackie Robinson and James Brown in 42 and GET ON UP, respectively. Fourth if you're an idiot who thinks Wakanda is a real place and Black Panther a real person.
Anyway, the above clip shows off Marshall's no-nonsense attitude, the unfair treatment of blacks in the historically segregated South, and Marshall's nebbish partner played by Josh Gad. Honestly, if this weren't based on real-life, I'd love to see Boseman and Gad star in a fun cable procedural.
And here's the official synopsis:
As the nation teeters on the brink of WWII, a nearly bankrupt NAACP sends Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) to conservative Connecticut to defend a black chauffeur against his wealthy socialite employer in a sexual assault and attempted murder trial that quickly became tabloid fodder. In need of a high profile victory but muzzled by a segregationist court, Marshall is partnered with Samuel Friedman (Josh Gad), a young Jewish lawyer who has never tried a case.
Exciting – and sadly still relevant – stuff. I'm definitely checking this one out!
Meanwhile, MARSHALL will march into theaters October 13th.
