When Damon Lindelof's WATCHMEN series arrives on HBO, the new and mysterious show inspired by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' cult classic series is expected to introduce fans to dark and strange corners of the franchise's pulpy universe. It's a risky business to be sure. Taking something that so many people love and twisting it into your own creative vision. Thankfully, the trailers and promos for Lindelof's take have many people intrigued, and today the network has shared three promo videos that are bound to get people talking.
At first, one would assume that the video clips feature the series' grunty wordsmith, Rorschach, though after doing some digging, many are saying that the character featured in the videos is none other than Looking Glass, a new character to the WATCHMEN landscape.
You can see all three promos for yourself below:
In the first promo, we find the bizarre new character pulling a reflective mask over his face, a gesture that's giving me some straight-up JACOB'S LADDER vibes. In the second clip, we find Looking Glass staring blankly into the camera, as a series of backgrounds rotate behind him. Finally, in the last video, we see Looking Glass surveying his yellow-masked army, and likely plotting his next move against his oppressors.
From what I can gather, Lindelof's WATCHMEN looks to be something of a follow-up to Moore and Gibbons' original story. I say this because in the trailer (posted below), we see what looks like a group of one-percenter cultists using Rorschach's blotted look to obscure their faces. My guess is that they're in direct opposition to the yellow-faced police state, birthed by fear after the original Watchmen team and their enemies were exposed to the world.
Set to star in the series are actors Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Don Johnson, Fraces Fisher, Adelaide Clemens, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Louis Gosset Jr. and Tim Blake Nelson. Meanwhile, Lindelof will serve as the creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer of HBO's WATCHMEN, with Tom Spezialy, Stephen Williams, and Joseph Iberti also executive producing. Additionally, Nicole Kassell will executive produce and direct the pilot.
HBO's WATCHMEN is expected to arrive on the network in the Fall of this year.
