Secret service agent Mike Banning is apparently not "too old for this shit."
In a move as strange as some of the shenanigans Gerard Butler's character gets up to, HAS FALLEN producer Alan Siegel confirmed that not one, not two, but THREE new films in the HAS FALLEN series are currently in development as well as possible spinoff television shows in local markets. The films will continue to come via Millennium Media which brought audiences OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN and its two followups, LONDON HAS FALLEN and ANGEL HAS FALLEN.
The action films as you may recall, chronicle the adventures of secret service agent Mike Banning who uses his very special set of skills to protect Presidents, foreign diplomats, and elves. (OK maybe not that last but there's no evidence we aren't heading in that direction.) While the first film saw the White House get blown to shit, and then the second saw London get blown to shit, no angels were apparently hurt in this last outing.
All kidding aside, the HAS FALLEN series are perfectly serviceable action films that are right in Gerard Butler's wheelhouse. Furthermore, the films have proven to be box office winners with the three movies grossing over half a billion dollars worldwide. The series has seen the most success among foreign markets, particularly China. The HAS FALLEN series also has the distinct advantage of utilizing relatively small budgets, anywhere in the $40 to $60 million range. Bottom line is that these movies are profitable regardless of what you think of their quality.
My question is where do we go from here in terms of titles? At some point we may get a film centered around Butler's Banning saving his grandmother titled MEE MAW HAS FALLEN AND SHE CAN'T GET UP.
No word yet on when we can expect the next edition in the HAS FALLEN series, however ANGEL HAS FALLEN is currently available for digital purchase and will release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K November 26.
