Thor: The Dark World came out back in 2013 but that doesn’t mean it can’t still be the topic of conversation. On Twitter yesterday, people were discussing the worst of the MCU, and Thor: The Dark World, which is rarely at the top of anyone’s list, had its defenders coming out to plead its case. Thor: The Dark World began to get so much love that the polarizing sequel even began trending on social media, although this could’ve been a mix of the film getting love and hate.
Thor: The Dark World sympathizers took to social media to defend the Thor sequel when it kept coming up that the movie should be placed near the bottom of the list when it comes to the quality of the MCU films. Fans defended the movie for its character-driven moments, mostly attributed to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, and its rich storytelling. You can check out some of the defense of the film below:
It wasn’t all love for Thor: The Dark World. On social media, you could find several users saying it’s the worst of the MCU with The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 3 also getting honorable mentions. I don’t think it’s a bad film but I would put it down towards the bottom of my rankings too and I think it showed that the Thor films needed a tonal shift that we eventually got with Thor: Ragnarok. That being said, the film is still 66% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and its audience score is a pretty decent 75% on the site. While that isn’t a high mark of the MCU, it still shows that even mediocre Marvel is better than most.
In Thor: The Dark World, when the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Faster (Natalie Portman). Directed by Alan Taylor, the film also stars Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Idris Elba, Rene Russo, and Kat Dennings.
