Thor 2 director would love to make a “Snyder Cut” version of the movie

Thor: The Dark World definitely isn’t top-tier Marvel, but the film did experience a number of production issues that have left fans wondering whether or not a better film isn’t sitting on a shelf somewhere. Over the years, we’ve seen directors return to their films with transformative new cuts, but perhaps the biggest example of this in recent years is Zack Snyder’s Justice League. While speaking with Inverse, Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor said that he would love to pull off a Snyder Cut version of his movie.

I was cheering for Snyder when he was doing that and thinking, ‘Will he pull this off? This is amazing.’ I think every director was kind of rooting for that. I would love to, I mean to. Can you imagine that? They give me however many millions of dollars they gave him to go back in. Yeah, I don’t think I’m going to get that phone call.

Alan Taylor doesn’t seem convinced that Marvel will come calling with the opportunity for a Snyder Cut redo of Thor: The Dark World, but perhaps one day we’ll know the whole story. “For me, the process was not fun,” Taylor explained. “I focused all my attention on making a certain movie. And then in the editing process, decisions were made to change it a lot. [Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has] got an empire he’s running and things have to be changed to fit into other things. My regret was that the movie that got released was changed quite a bit in a way that I couldn’t shape really. I mean, I shot all the material that we put in the movie, but we set out to make one movie, and then major plot points were reversed in post. It’s not the ideal way to work.” Despite the initial reaction to Thor: The Dark World, the film has gained a new appreciation over the years. Where does the film stand in your ranking?

So, would you want a Thor 2 “Snyder Cut”? Alan Taylor’s next film is The Many Saints of Newark, a Sopranos prequel movie that will be released in theaters and on HBO Max tomorrow. You can check out a review of the film from our own Chris Bumbray right here.
