Thor: Love and Thunder suffered one of the MCU’s steepest box office drops over the weekend, and that’s largely to do with the mixed responses to the film. While director Taika Waititi brought some much-needed humor to Thor: Ragnarok, fans seem to think he went a little too far with Love and Thunder. Many fans think Waititi and the film’s creative team made Thor a walking joke. This isn’t something that Waititi seems to agree with, and he used a Luke Cage comic panel to drive his point home.
In response to some of the criticism involving the film’s humor, a Twitter user named @HwjwhJeh shared a comic book panel featuring Thor in a dance-off with Luke Cage. He wrote, “Dawg he had a dance-off with Luke Cage. Stop acting like Thor can only be one thing.” Waititi saw the tweet, shared it, and replied, “Lol, YES.” You can check out the tweet below!
I can only speak for myself, and I have to admit that I also thought the film went way overboard on the humor. At times the film comes off as a parody of the MCU, and the shifts in tone are often jarring. I didn’t think the film was bad, and it was mostly entertaining, but I think there needed to be a bit more balance between the humor and its more serious moments. This has seemed to divide fans on social media, but I think the film’s box office performance in its second weekend shows just how polarizing the response to the film has been.
Do YOU think Taika Waititi went too far with the humor in Thor: Love and Thunder?
