Michael Giacchino has scored plenty of blockbusters throughout his career, including a handful of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Starting with Doctor Strange, Giacchino went on to score Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the soon-to-be-released Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he’s is about to tackle the God of Thunder next as Michael Giacchino took to Twitter to announce that he will compose the score for Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder.

Production on Thor: Love and Thunder wrapped up earlier this summer, and writer/director Taika Waititi has teased that it’s the craziest film he’s ever done.

Well, just between me and you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy shit in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done. If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.

Taika Waititi added that Thor: Love and Thunder will be “very different from Ragnarok. It’s crazier. I’ll tell you what’s different. There’ll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos.” The score for Thor: Ragnarok was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh, but with Michael Giacchino joining the team for Love and Thunder, we may be in for a different sound.

In addition to Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the upcoming sequel will also feature Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Jamie Alexander as Lady Sif, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Taika Waititi as Korg, and Russell Crowe as Zeus. The release of Thor: Love and Thunder was recently pushed back and the film will now hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
