Thor: Love and Thunder is the craziest movie Taika Waititi has ever made

After putting a fresh spin on the God of Thunder with Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi returned to direct Thor: Love and Thunder, which seems as though it will be taking the wackiness of the previous film to a whole new level. Production on the sequel wrapped up last month, and Waititi recently spoke with Empire to explain just why Thor: Love and Thunder is the craziest movie he's ever made.

Well, just between me and you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy shit in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done. If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.

I can't wait to see it. Although Thor: Love and Thunder will be doubling down on what made Thor: Ragnarok so entertaining, Taika Waititi said that the new film will be "very different from Ragnarok. It’s crazier. I’ll tell you what’s different. There’ll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos." Upon production wrapping up, Chris Hemsworth shared a similar sentiment, saying that "The film is gonna be batshit crazy off the wall funny and might also pull a heart string or two. Lots of love, lots of thunder! Thank you to all the cast and crew who made this another incredible Marvel journey. Buckle in, get ready and see ya in cinemas!!"

In addition to Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the upcoming sequel will also feature Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Jamie Alexander as Lady Sif, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Taika Waititi as Korg, and Russell Crowe as Zeus. Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
