Yesterday, Marvel teased that it would be announcing something “thundering” on The View. Now, I’m no Robert Langdon, but if I was a betting man I would say that announcement would have something to do with Thor.
Here’s the original Tweet:
We’re announcing an all-new thundering title tomorrow on ABC’s @theviewtv! Tune in at 11e|10p|c for details. #TheView http://t.co/eCzMJk5Mws

So what’s the big scoop? While many suggested that perhaps a third Thor film might be in the works, evidently this news falls on the side of comic canon: Thor will now be portrayed by a woman. The mighty hammer, Mjolnir, will find that the original Thor is no longer worthy of carrying it. Unlike the first THOR film, this will not be a temporary ordeal, nor will the female Thor be “just a substitute”. She is the real deal.

In series-writer Jason Aaron’s words:
This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.
I certainly have no qualms about Thor being portrayed by a woman. All I ask of any story is to just make it compelling. I imagine that this change-up with her taking over, as well as her interactions with any other heroes or villains, will pave the way for many interesting stories. Given this information, I wonder if this is the direction they’ll be looking to take in the cinematic Marvel-verse once Chris Hemsworth decides to hang up his Thor boots. Frankly, I would totally be down for that!
The new comic series, showcasing how female Thor came to be, will hit this October.
