In general, actor Thomas Middleditch is probably best known for playing the role of Richard Hendricks in the HBO series Silicon Valley, but genre fans might recognize him from THE FINAL GIRLS (pictured above). In a few months we'll be seeing him in GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS… and in October we'll be seeing him in ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP, the 10th anniversary sequel to ZOMBIELAND.
Signing on to ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP, Middleditch joins a cast that includes returning ZOMBIELAND stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, as well as fellow new additions Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch, and Avan Jogia. (Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd might be in the mix, too.)
No details on Middleditch's character were revealed in his casting announcement.
But I have some speculation. Nine months ago, we heard some information on the ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP plot that had to be treated as a rumor at the time. We still have to take it with a grain of salt until the filmmakers share official information, but as this project moves forward that rumor seems to prove more and more accurate. So these might be considered SPOILERS.
The rumor said there would be a character named Reno who is "the Eve to Tallahassee's Adam". We don't know the name of Dawson's character, but who better to play a female Tallahassee? It said that we would be meeting a "ditzy blonde" named Madison. Deutch is playing a character named Madison, and was recently pictured on the set of DOUBLE TAP looking very much like a ditzy blonde. It also said that Columbus would be running into a character named Cleveland who is his "spitting image", "essentially the same person". We don't know the name of Middleditch's character, but he would certainly be a great choice to play a Jesse Eisenberg doppelgänger.
Everything will be revealed for sure when ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP is released on October 11th.
DOUBLE TAP is being directed by ZOMBIELAND's Ruben Fleischer, working from a screenplay by the first film's writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
