Thomas Haden Church is no stranger to the superhero genre as he starred as Flint Marko aka Sandman in Sam Raimi's much-maligned SPIDER-MAN 3. But earlier this year, our very own Paul Shirly spoke with Chruch about all things movies and the actor revealed that he had an upcoming role in an unspecified superhero movie, telling Paul:
I’m not supposed to talk about it, but I actually have returned, but not in the Marvel world, it’s another world, but it is in that genre of superheroes and supervillains. I’m not supposed to talk about it, it’s a movie I shot last year. They’re trying to keep it-and good luck to ‘em-with, y’know, today man, I’m surprised it hasn’t already kinda been revealed.
Well, mystery solved as today we have word via Discussing Film that Church will be playing Lobster Johnson in director Neil Marshall's upcoming HELLBOY reboot starring David Harbour. Church will play the iconic Hellboy character, who is described as a “vigilante who worked in secret in New York City during the 1930s who had a reputation for violence and burning his trademark lobster claw symbol into foreheads.”
That's pretty much all we know about Church's involvement with the reboot at this time, but we will make sure to keep on top of this news and let you know as soon as we hear more. Until then, make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think of Thomas Haden Church playing Lobster Johnson in the upcoming HELLBOY reboot below!
This new take on HELLBOY is said to be an R-rated film that will be darker and more horrific than the previous films. Written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, Aron Coleite, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, this one finds
Hellboy, along with his team of paranormal researchers, trying to save the world from a medieval sorceress who wants to destroy humankind.
Church and Harbour's co-stars include Milla Jovovich as the villainous Nimue, Queen of Blood, Ian McShane as Hellboy's mentor Professor Broom, Sasha Lane as his love interest Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as the elder witch Ganeida, Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio (who can turn into a jaguar), Sophie Okonedo as the seer Lady Hatton, Alistair Petrie as Lord Adam Glaren of the supernatural mystery investigating Osiris Club, and Brian Gleeson as the wizard Merlin. The HELLBOY reboot recently got pushed back from a January release date to April 12, 2019.
