In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by a whale of mammoth size and and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville's Moby-Dick. Ron Howard's IN THE HEART OF THE SEA reveals the encounter's harrowing aftermath, as the ship's surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. While we had originally expected this film in the beginning of the year, it's almost time to take the action to the sea with this brand new trailer that is easily one of the most tense I've seen this year!
It's possible that this movie was pushed back to garner some more buzz around awards season, and it'll need it if it's going to compete with a whale of a movie opening one week later, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Still, this looks to be a welcome maritime adventure of which I'd say we don't have enough of these days!
IN THE HEART OF THE SEA will open in theaters on December 11, 2015.
